FRANCISCO DEL PINO Francisco del Pino is an Argentinian composer and guitarist. His music, which draws influence from both classical and vernacular traditions, revolves around process and pattern and is usually based on extensive contrapuntal techniques.

Numerous international music series and festivals have presented del Pino’s works, and he was recently selected for the 2020 Soundstreams’ RBC Bridges Workshop for Early Career Composers in Toronto, Canada. His music has been repeatedly included in the Argentine Section's official submission to ISCM World Music Days and was presented at South Korea’s 2016 edition as Argentine representative. The composer’s piece Jardín de lágrimas, awarded by a world-class jury chaired by Kaija Saariaho, became a compulsory piece for the 2015 edition of Finland’s prestigious Sibelius Violin Competition.

del Pino’s honors also include First Prize at the Viola's 2014 Composition Contest (AFEA, Paris), First Prize at the 2014 Sorodha Composition Competition (Antwerp), “Best piece for solo marimba” at the 2013 Moscow Conservatory International Composition Competition, First Prize at the 2010 Composition Contest “La máquina del tiempo” (Argentina), and First Prize at the 2008 Composition Award “Juan Carlos Paz” (Argentina).

As a performer, del Pino has played with eclectic bands and ensembles—from contemporary classical music to prog-oriented rock and South American folk. Current performance projects include alba par, a voice and guitar duo navigating the crossroads between the medieval and renaissance chanson and the contemporary popular song. He also performs his own work on electric guitar.

After graduating from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Argentina as a student of Fernando Maglia, Francisco del Pino continued his training under the guidance of Gerardo Gandini whose workshops he attended between 2009 and 2011. He also took lessons and attended masterclasses with composers Mariano Etkin, Toivo Tulev, Wim Henderickx, Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Kaija Saariaho, and Stefano Gervasoni, among others. He is currently a Mark Nelson Fellow in composition at Princeton University.
