Composer and New Amsterdam Records co-founder/artistic director William Brittelle and the Grammy-nominated chamber orchestra Metropolis Ensemble announce "Forbidden Colors" — a walk-about concert on June 25 in the style of a roving electronic music mini-festival featuring performances and installations all hand-crafted to take advantage of the "profoundly high-fidelity" (New York Times) custom-built sound system at the new venue Public Records in Gowanus. 

The event is named for a piece on Spiritual America, the new album written by Brittelle and featuring Metropolis Ensemble, Wye Oak, and Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and is inspired by the mosaic of sonic worlds it features. The album was recently released through a partnership between New Amsterdam and Nonesuch Records; to celebrate, selections from the album will be played between live performances at the event, and attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the album. The evening will feature electro-acoustic music ranging from experimental jazz, sound-art, hacked theremins, custom built synthesizers, interactive computer music installations, and post-classical, including the world premiere of a new piece written by Brittelle for synthesizer and harpsichord entitled "Lost in Norfair” (an ode to the original Metroid video game). Other composer/performers and electronic artists include: Jordan Dodson, Chris Fishman, JK Kim, Molly Joyce, Live Footage and Danny Meyer, Susanna Hancock, Daniel Fishkin, Ryan Francis, Ian Rosenbaum, Jay Scorce. Additionally, selections of music from Daniel Wohl's new album, État, (also recently released through Nonesuch/New Amsterdam Records) will be played, along with a live performance of his Mutations in Plainchant (with the saxophone quartet Singularity).
