Finnegan Shanahan
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Rhinebeck, NY, FINNEGAN SHANAHAN is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist, composers, and founding member of new music ensemble Contemporaneous. A classically-trained violinist and violist, Finnegan draws on his experience with improvisation, experimental music, and folk singing. Finnegan also performs with Contemporaneous as a vocalist, notably as the tenor soloist in Donnacha Dennehy's Grá Agus Bás, originally written for Dublin's Crash Ensemble and sean-nos folk singer Iarla Ó Lionáird.
He has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Pete Seeger, Jherek Bischoff, David Byrne, Amanda Palmer, Jen Goma, Greg Saunier, Dr. Skinnybones, The Music Tapes, Chris Rubeo, GABI, Yassou Benedict, The Left Banke, Sam Kogon, and Steady Sun, among others. He has also scored and self-recorded music for multiple independent and experimental films.
