DUE EAST is a new music duo consisting of Erin Lesser on flute and Greg Beyer on percussion, devoted to innovative instrumental combinations, and technology-driven multimedia performance. Their chemistry has been described as “a synergy that makes for an amazingly expressive and delightful program” (Rich Holly, Percussive Arts Society) and Seth Knopp of the Yellow Barn Music Festival concurs that “they do not merely play together, they breathe as one, inspiring audiences with illuminating insight into new musical vistas.” The duo has performed internationally at a variety of venues, festivals, and institutions including the Warsaw Crossdruming Festival, the SEAMUS conference, Bargemusic, the Archipelgao Series, Music With a View, and dozens of universities across the US. They have given American premieres by composers David Lang and Alejandro Vinao, and world premieres by works from the Wet Ink composer collective, Columbia University’s Composers Ensemble, New York University’s First Performance, and more.

The duo’s album drawn only once marks their New Amsterdam debut, released in 2011 and featuring two works by composer John Supko. The works–written for an array of percussion instruments and flutes over a wash of pre-recorded vocals, keyboards, and various ambient electronics–showcase Due East’s commitment toward expanding the flute/percussion repertoire with experimental works. Furthermore, the each of the works are accompanied by a video in 5.1 surround sound DVD format that allow for truly exciting multi-disciplinary realizations of Supko’s inventive compositions.
